The walk
What is this walk like?
The Rota Vicentina runs along one of the best-preserved stretches of Europe's Atlantic coast. The route links small coastal villages, Vila Nova de Milfontes, Almograve, Zambujeira do Mar and Odeceixe, on cliff paths and beaches, with the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentina Coast Natural Park on one side and the ocean on the other.
A typical day covers 15 to 22 km on waymarked trail, with time to swim or stop for a long lunch. You stay in locally run guesthouses and small hotels, chosen for comfort and location and booked for you, subject to availability. Farol moves your bags between stays and provides a digital guidebook with maps and GPX tracks. You walk at your own pace, with a 24-hour support line if you need it.

Ascent & descent per day
Is this walk right for you?
Some sections of this route involve exposed cliff edges. This walk is not recommended for those with a significant fear of heights.
This is a moderate coastal walk, not a mountain trek. Most days run between 15 and 22 km on a mix of cliff path, sand and farm track, with short climbs rather than long ascents. The longest day is 22.6 km, and there is a rest day in the middle. If you walk regularly at home and are steady on uneven ground, you will enjoy it. A few cliff-edge sections are exposed, so it suits walkers who are comfortable with heights. Stages can be shortened or split if you prefer shorter days.
