Walking the Alentejo coast
The quietest stretch of Portugal's southwest coast: cork oaks and open beaches, white storks on the sea cliffs, and the northern Fishermen's Trail.
The Alentejo coast is the southwest corner of Portugal, between the Alentejo plains and the Atlantic, mostly within the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentina Coast Natural Park. It is the least built coast in the country, and the start of the Rota Vicentina's Fishermen's Trail.

What the walking is like
Sand, sea cliffs, and storks
The northern Fishermen's Trail runs here, from Porto Covo south to Odeceixe, on sand and clifftop paths above empty beaches. Inland, the Historical Way crosses cork oak and farmland from Santiago do Cacém. This is the coast where white storks nest on the sea stacks, most famously at Cabo Sardão.
