The walk
What is this walk like?
The Via Algarviana crosses the Algarve from the inland hills to the Atlantic, away from the busy coast. This self-guided route walks a southern section of the trail, from the village of Salir through cork-oak hills, whitewashed villages like Alte, and the old Moorish town of Silves, before finishing on the cliffs at Cape St Vincent, the south-western tip of Europe.
Days run between 13 and 16 km on stony tracks and forest paths, with a rest day in Silves in the middle. You stay in locally run guesthouses and small hotels, booked for you, subject to availability. Farol moves your bags between stays and provides a digital guidebook with maps and GPX tracks, which matter here because mobile coverage is patchy inland. You walk at your own pace, with a 24-hour support line if you need it.

Ascent & descent per day
Is this walk right for you?
This is a moderate inland walk with a coastal finish, not a mountain trek. Most days run 13 to 16 km through cork-oak hills and old villages, with steady ups and downs rather than long climbs, and a rest day in Silves halfway. If you walk regularly and are comfortable on stony, uneven ground, you will enjoy it. Mobile coverage is patchy inland, so the route relies on the GPX tracks and offline maps in your guidebook. Stages can be adjusted if you prefer shorter days.
